In short
The Bharat.Law MCP connector links your Bharat.Law account to Claude or ChatGPT. Once connected, you can ask your assistant to research Indian statutes and judgments, check a citation, draft a document, open your cases and documents, or find a matter's next hearing, with every answer linked back to its source in Bharat.Law.
What you can do
Ask in plain language. Your assistant picks the right Bharat.Law action and shows you the sources it used.
| Task | Try asking |
|---|---|
| Research Indian law | What must a complainant prove under Section 138 of the NI Act? Cite the leading judgments. |
| Verify an answer | Verify this answer for the Delhi High Court. Lead with corrections and link the evidence. |
| Check a citation | Check this judgment citation and whether it supports the proposition beside it. |
| Run deep research | Run deep research on bail conditions in economic offences across High Courts. |
| Draft a document | Draft a legal notice for non-payment using the facts in my case. |
| Open your cases and documents | List the documents in my Sharma v. Gupta case. |
| Find the next hearing | When is the next hearing in my matter at the Bombay High Court? |
| Pick up saved work | Continue the research on the arbitration clause I started yesterday. |
Before you start
- A Bharat.Law account. Create one at app.bharat.law if you don't have one.
- Access to the workspace or case you want to use.
- Claude on web, desktop, mobile or Cowork, or ChatGPT. Claude Code is not supported yet, and Google Gemini support is coming soon.
Set up in Claude
Open connector settings
In Claude, go to Settings and open Connectors.
Add Bharat.Law
Find Bharat.Law in the connector directory and select Connect. If it isn't listed for your account, add it as a custom connector using the URL below.
Sign in to Bharat.Law
A Bharat.Law sign-in window opens. Sign in with your usual Bharat.Law account and approve access.
Turn it on in a chat
Start a new conversation, open the tools menu and make sure Bharat.Law is switched on.
Custom connector URL
https://api.bharat.law/mcpWhen adding a custom connector, leave the OAuth client ID and client secret fields empty. You don't need a Bharat.Law API key. On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, an organisation owner may need to add the connector before members can connect.
Set up in ChatGPT
Open ChatGPT settings
Open Settings and go to the section that lists available apps.
Connect Bharat.Law
Find Bharat.Law, select Connect and sign in with your Bharat.Law account.
Use it in a chat
Start a conversation and choose Bharat.Law from the tools menu, or mention it in your request.
If ChatGPT asks you to reconnect, return to the same settings page and sign in again.
Example workflows
- Verify an answer
- Paste the answer and name the court and the relevant date. You get a list of corrections with links to the supporting authority, plus any points that couldn't be confirmed.
- Check a citation
- Give the citation, the court and the quotation or proposition it is cited for. The check covers whether the judgment exists, whether the quotation matches and whether it supports the point.
- Find a hearing
- Give the parties, the court or bench and the case number or CNR if you have it. If several matters match, you'll be asked to pick the right one.
What is saved and what uses credits
- Quick searches and lookups are not saved to your Bharat.Law account.
- Research, deep research and drafts are saved to your Bharat.Law account, in the selected workspace, and follow your workspace and case sharing.
- Drafting, deep research and fresh court lookups can use credits from your Bharat.Law plan.
- Check exact quotations against the original judgment before relying on them.
- If no hearing date is found, confirm with the court record before assuming none is listed.
Security and your data
- Each person connects with their own Bharat.Law sign-in. There is no shared key.
- The connector can only reach what you can already see in Bharat.Law. Connecting doesn't widen your access.
- What you send to Claude or ChatGPT, and the answers they return, are handled under your agreement with that provider.
- Disconnecting in your assistant stops it from using Bharat.Law. To revoke access completely, open Connected assistants in Bharat.Law and select Revoke access.
Troubleshooting
- Bharat.Law is connected but the assistant doesn't use it
- Check that Bharat.Law is switched on for the current conversation. Finish any pending sign-in, then start a new chat. If it still doesn't appear, disconnect and connect again.
- Sign-in keeps returning to the connection screen
- For a custom connector in Claude, make sure the OAuth client ID and secret fields are empty. Disconnect, reconnect and sign in again. If it still fails, email support with the time it happened.
- A case or document is missing, or I see an access error
- Check that the right workspace and case are selected, and that the document has finished processing in Bharat.Law. Reconnecting doesn't give access to matters you can't otherwise open.
- A citation, statute or hearing can't be found
- Add more detail: the parties, the citation, the named High Court or the Supreme Court, or the section and Act. For hearings, include the court or bench and the case number or CNR.
- The connection dropped while research or a draft was running
- Ask the assistant to pick up your recent Bharat.Law work before starting again. This avoids duplicate work and duplicate credit use.
- A feature is unavailable or I'm out of credits
- Check your plan and credit balance in Bharat.Law. Asking again won't add credits or unlock a feature.
